Assisted Senior Living
In 2015, Carefree launched its assisted living program, licensed by the Minnesota Department of Health. We provide three chef-prepared daily meals, 24-hour healthcare staff, and a variety of home health care services and activities.
The Base Rate includes rent for the unit, 3 meals per day, a wireless emergency response pendant, access to home health aide services, paid utilities, weekly housekeeping and two loads of laundry per week. In addition to the Base Rate, residents are able to choose Home Care Services for an additional fee on an as-needed basis.
Our property is located just west of White Bear Avenue behind Rainbow Foods, and is close to Maplewood Mall, grocery stores, restaurants, public transportation and healthcare.
Carefree accepts Medical Assistance (Medicaid) funding including the Elderly Waiver and CADI programs. For more information on these programs, contact Carefree Cottages or your local county public health or social services department.
Please note, our assisted care program is offered as an amenity for the Carefree Community and is not required to become a Carefree resident.

About our Assisted Living Program
The Carefree assisted living program has home health aides on-site 24 hours/day. Nurses are on site during the week and are on-call 24 hours/day.
Assisted Living will cost more than Independent Senior Housing because one pays for rent, meals, services, and utilities. Our assisted living services are very competitively priced as compared to other programs in the Maplewood area.
Carefree accepts Medical Assistance (Medicaid) funding including the Elderly Waiver and CADI programs. These programs are based on income/assets and the need for services.
For more information on these programs, contact Carefree Cottages of Maplewood or your local county public health or social services department.
What is the process if someone wants to move into Carefree Assisted Living?
Please contact Carefree at (651) 770-7687 to schedule a tour and meet with our housing coordinator. Move-in criteria and care needs will be discussed. If someone meets the criteria, a nursing assessment will be scheduled with a Carefree registered nurse. The nurse will determine if Carefree Assisted Living can provide the specific care and services the prospect needs. If it’s deemed that the resident is an appropriate fit for the program, the nurse will then request the prospect’s primary care physician (or a local physician if out-of-area) to complete Carefree’s Admission Orders. A prospect should have had an annual physical conducted within the past year.
